Surrogates stars Bruce Willis as an FBI agent investigating a murder in a world that no longer is accustomed to it. The use of surrogates allows for everyone to go about their lives through the safety of their own living avatar, at least until the incident reveals there is more to it all than people realize. The ads have been intriguing and Willis is usually bankable for a solid opening. There has also been an absence of action thrillers recently. The movie was screened to critics earlier this week however a hold on reviews is in place until this evening. Surrogates should open with about 18 million.
Fame is the updated take on the original film from 1980. Musicals have done well at the theaters recently but there isn’t any star power involved here and demand for another Fame outside of the original and the musical seems lacking. In addition early reviews have not been friendly so the appeal will be limited. Fame may pull in about 10 million this weekend.
In a month that has already offered several horror options comes Pandorum. The plot involves two men who wake up on their spacecraft having lost their memory. Not knowing who they are or why they are there they also discover they are not alone. The movie feels a lot like the 1997 film Event Horizon which opened with a 9.5 million weekend. Pandorum could see a comparable weekend take.
